CAPITAL DISTRICT STAMP NEWS

As you can see, we are going to have another stamp show this month.  The Fort Orange Stamp Club of Albany, NY will hopefully be sponsoring two of these shows each year – one in April and another in October.  Together with the annual Northeast Postal History & Ephemera Show held over a two-day period in July, this gives the area 3 quality shows each year.

The most recent Northeast Postal History & Ephemera Show, held this past July, was the most successful one to date. Well over 200 area collectors attended, and the dealers reported strong sales. In fact, this was the best that Azusa has ever done at these annual shows.

The Fort Orange Stamp Club has resumed a full schedule of meetings & programs.  The President is Paul Lyngard, 1st Vice President is Richard Welty, 2nd Vice President is Michael Krug, Secretary is Maris Tirums, and Treasurer is Lou Vasi.

The upcoming programs include “U.S. Transcontinental Airmail Service” by Lou Vasi (Tues. Oct. 12), Halloween Postcards by Tom Auletta (Tues. Oct. 26), Members’ Fall Auction (Tues. Nov. 9), and Philatelic Quiz compiled by Maris Tirums (Tues. Nov. 23). The Club actively recruits and welcomes new members.  The dues are only $10.00 each year.

Here at Azusa, we have been pretty busy recently.  The Pandemic has apparently enabled many collectors to have more time to sort through and organize their collections.  This in turn seems to have resulted in more stamp collecting interest.  We have sold more supplies, especially mounts and supplements, than we ever have in a comparable period.  Also, we have been offered a large number of collections and estates this past year.

We continue to be active buyers of quality material, and have purchased a number of premium collections within the last few months.  3 recent purchases resulted in the acquisition of over 150 albums and binders, many in Scott Specialty Albums.  Some of the collections include:

Austria, Canada, France, French Colonies, French Polynesia, Germany, German Areas, Great Britain, Australia, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau, etc. – many other countries too numerous to mention.  For the most part, these collections are loaded with hi-value premium singles, sets, and souvenir sheets.

We also have been breaking up a 25 volume Scott International collection.  The better stamps have been grouped by country and priced at a small fraction of catalogue value. (See list of countries below.).  The lesser value stamps (anything under $1.00 cat. value) have been placed in individual country folders @ 10 cents each.
